About me

My name is Marvin Duca and I was born in Merano (bz), the 14th August 1982, where I lived from the age of one year old until the end of the school’s time. In 2003 I moved to Bolzano, where I currently reside.

In 2002 I obtained a professional course in “Web Developer”, financed by the FSE (European Social Fund). This course of 1200 hours (1 year) permitted me to learn some different website-programming languages (php, asp, mysql, html, etc…), some different software (Dreamweaver, Photoshop) and to receive the ECDL license.

I have a Bachelor Degree in “Geography of the territorial processes”, received from the University of Padua, the 24th March 2009. I’ve focused my studies on physical geography/glaciology fields: my B.A. thesis regards the evolution of the South Tyrolean Glaciers during the last last 20 years (trying to find a relation with the climate changes). My coordinator was Prof. Mirco Meneghel, the head of the “North-eastern Italian Glaciological Committee” and professor of Geology at the University of Padua.

I've always been fascinated in climatological/glaciological topics and for this reason I wanted to orient my Master studies in a more scientific direction. I've started in October 2010 a master's degree in Geology (M.Sc. in “Geology sciences, Georesourses and Territory”, University of Ferrara) and I'm writing my M.Sc. thesis in glaciology with the use of ArcGis 10 and the Remote Sensing techniques at the Department of Earth Science, University of Uppsala, Sweden (Erasmus program). The main goal of this project is to map all the Swedish glaciers in order to see how them are changed during the last 30 years and find some relation between the glaciers area (that I’ve calculated) and the mass balance, calculated from the Swedish National Board.

I have lived in many Italian cities and I had the opportunity to study English in Dublin for a period of 2 months and to work in Germany for a period of 4 months.

I had some small experience as weather's forecaster on the website www.meteo4.com where I wrote for a short period the weather forecast about South Tyrol and where I posted in real time the data of my LaCrosse WS3650 weather station.

My blog was created to share what I'm learning during my M.Sc. with the aim to share scientific information and to inform you of the presence of interesting courses. It wants be even a blog where I can expose my topics regarding my thesis project in Sweden, my life experience, my travels and all what I can explain like passion.
